Hirofumi Ogata President SUAR BAMBU inc.
Before the World war U, my father lived in North Korea with my
grandfather, whose business called for him to reside in the country. Afterthe
Japanese were defeated and in the confusion that followed, my father wasrescued
by a North Korean soldier and was able to safely return to Japan, and so
from an early age I have had a deep interest in Asia.
In University, I majored in Buddhism and after graduating I held anormal
company job until I eventually became the Chief Manager of famousJapanese
newscaster Hiroshi Ikushima.
Through this I was able to make broadconnections throughout the circles
of the broadcasting and production
industries.
After that I became the Regulations Secretary for the Majortheatrical agency,
and through this job my duties included PR developmentand sales promotion
planning/ production responsibilities within thecompany.
Presently, I am still able to call upon this vast network ofpeople in the field.
For example, in 1994 I was able to use my experience and connectionsto contract with the Japanese Agency of Cultural Affairs and local areagovernments to produce an international exchange project and was in chargeof planning international exchange at their traditional art foundation, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The foundation,a vessel of UNESCO, put me in a position to deepen my relationships
with representative artists from all over the world.
I have been involved with the production of many events, including the
Niigata Asian Culture Festival, the Hiroshima Asian Convention Pre-event,
the Mie Prefecture Festival Exhibition, the Wakayama Prefecture Resort
Exhibition, and others.
With Issey Miyake at the Paris-Tokyo Collection, I produced the musical
event usingrestored ancient Asian instruments that succeeded in reproducing
this ancient culture in current day Tokyo and Paris. During this time I
was also able to construct a wide, deep network of first rate Asian, African,
and South American artists living in Japan.
In the summer of 1995, 50 years after the war, I set off on a personal
research trip for two months to the five main Chinese cities and across
Tibet to see with my own eyes the common threads in Asian culture through
Buddhism.
(My insights were later published in the Diamond Big company’s “How to
Walk the Earth” [Chikyu no Arukikata] series.)
It was here I strengthened the basis of my idea to start an independent
company.
After returning to Japan I worked for the Dentsu Public Relations division
where my first assignment was as a relief crisis management correspondent
in France for the post-bombing Orsay Art Gallery exhibition in the publicity
office preparing for protests and unpredictable circumstances relating
to the atomic bomb victims groups.
After my contract was finished, I again worked for the national and local governments on creating PR strategies for the use of mass communication and talent.
In June of 1996 I founded SUAR BAMBU co., LTD. a corporation to produce international projects through such mediums as stage and picture, utilizing a broad range of artistic talent.
My first project involved a project rich in internationalization through
first rate traditional Asiantalent.
Since going independent, I have been entrusted with many projects not only
for large companies such as Dentsu and Hakuhodo, but also national, local,
and various types of private companies and enterprises. I have been a bridge
between production and talent aspects while introducing first rate foreign
and Japanese artists and top quality ethnic talent.
Up until now, as seen in the manner of the Japan/ Korea exchange events
modeled after the Co-sponsorship of the World Cup, in 2003 I have been
involved in production of an event for the city of Peking dealing with
artistic talent and recognized as a partner company that introduced various
works and the Japan-Peking arts group, thus becoming involved in an Asia
based event on a national scale.
I am trying hard to achieve the goal of preserving our rich tradition and
heritage, soaring above country boundaries, to pass it on to the next generation
and to create a treasure of new culture from modern Japan through original
exchange that contributes to the dispatch of that culture.
Currently, as the heart of the company, I am developing individualistic,
cooperative communication and have recently began the position of director
and secretary general of the NPO corporation’s G4s.
As International PR Consultant, I will have the responsibility of PR at
thisyear’s 2004 NPO World Peace Summit, a gathering of youth in various
fieldsfrom around the world, held this year in Kenya and Nairobi, Africa
and sprung from the 2000 United Nations Millennium Summit. Also, as of June
2003 I have held the position of head of the production division for the
Ikushima Hiroshi PR Agency.

* Digital Expo Korea 2001
(Seoul International Computer Fair, Productionin Charge of Introducing
